Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon - Wrap-Up

Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon is over. Congratulations survivors! I hope you enjoyed this Read-a-Thon as much as I did. Last week my goals were:
  1. To read every day;
  2. To participate in two challenges;
  3. To write at least one blog post per day.
I did read every day. I did participate in two challenges. And, I did write one blog per day. I completed all my goals.Yay! =D

About my readings:

Now, my readings didn't go as well as I was expecting.
  • I didn't finish any books that I proposed myself to read at the beginning of the Read-a-Thon. Also, I didn't start reading "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. However, I read "Simpsons Comics: First Issue", a comic book that I hadn't put on my to-read-pile.
  • I read 252 pages of "Life After Life" by Kate Atkinson and 40 pages of "Mrs. Dalloway" by Virginia Woolf (a book which I find very difficult to read). Also, I read 47 pages of "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner (e-book). I started reading all of the books mentioned above before the Read-a-Thon started.
  • I read two articles on May 18th: "The Early Life of Spetimus Smith" by Kathryn Van Wert (20 pages) and "Eliot, Time in Modernist Thought, and Contemporary Reality" (14 pages). I didn't add them to my reading list.
  •  The day I read more was May 18th (Sunday) and the day I read less was May 12th (Monday). On Sunday I read 103 pages and on Monday I only read 28 pages
  • From May 12th to May 18th I read 483 pages from four books.
The books I propose myself to read at the beginning of the Read-a-Thon and the ones I actually read.

* The missing photo will be published soon*

About the challenges:

Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon Compared to  Bout of Books 9.0 Read-a-Thon
  • During Bout of Books 9.0 I read 850 pages which means that I read less 367 pages in Bout of Books 10. I was hoping to read more this time, but my schedule didn't allow me to do it.
  • In Bout of Books 9.0 I participated in 8 out of 11 challenges (72,7%) and in Bout of Books 10 I participated in 5 out of 9 challenges (55,6%). I participated in less challenges during this Read-a-Thon.
  • Bout of Books 9.0 Read-a-Thon went a lot better than Bout of Bookds 10 Read-a-Thon. Not only I read more as I also participated in more challenges.
I hope you enjoyed Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon as much as I did. Thank you for visiting my blog and dropping commentaries. If everything works out, I will participate in the next Read-a-Thon (which will be held in August) and I'll read a lot more and, luckly, participate in every challenge.

Till next time! ;)

Challenge(s): Retitle Your Current Read by Oh Magic Hour

For this, your final mini-challenge of the readathon, I thought it would be fun if we all tried to come up with a new title for our current read, or really anything we’ve read during this Bout of Books 10.0. For me, a great title can really go a long way toward making me want to read a book and I thought it would be fun to play with that concept a little bit.  Your new title can be something you ACTUALLY think would make a good title, or just something descriptive or something funny!  It’s totally up to you!

Here it's an easy and fun challenge. I'm currently reading "Life After Life" by Kate Atkinson. I would rename this book "One Thousand Ways to Die" or maybe "How To Save Yourself from an Awful Death".

Cover Scavenger Hunts are my favorite type of challenges. All the book covers we used are from reviews on the blog from April and May, so happy hunting. Click on the image below to enlarge!

I finally did it! I've wanted to participate in this kind of challenge for a while and now, I finally did it! :D

Here’s your challenge: Create a stack of book spines from your bookshelf, or post pictures of the covers, that go in rainbow order. So, you start with white on the bottom, then red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (purple), violet (like a darker purple), and then black! The spine should have at least a majority be the color you are looking for, but just use your best judgement to get the rainbow-like flow.

I wanted to only use books in English to build this pile. However, as I didn't have the right colours to do, I had to use some books in my native language, Portuguese. It's a Anglo-Portuguese rainbow, I guees. =P

The picture is a bit dark, but I hope the orange and yellow can be seen.

"Black Swan Rising" by Lee Carroll
 "Blood-Kissed Sky" by J.A. London
"Vanish" by Sophia Jordan
"Cruz de Ossos" by Patricia Briggs
"Shadowfell" by Juliet Marillier
"A Cidade das Cinzas" by Cassandra Clare
"A Cidade de Vidro" de Cassandra Clare

Just think about the book you are reading now, or one you've read before, and tell me something you think goes with it and why. The something can be another book, a movie, a song, a ballet, a drink, a special food or meal...no need to get Proustian about it, but if madelines are involved, it's okay.

I didn't have time to participate in this challenge. However, I may done this for fun and then update this post.

Welcome, welcome, one and all, to the Bout of Books Bookish Battle Royal. I’m ridiculously excited to be hosting my first ever read-a-thon challenge. But enough about me, let’s get down to the challenge. A battle royal is a no-holds-barred fight that includes three or more combatants and continues until only one is left standing. Maybe I’m a little sadistic but I instantly thought: “I should pit fictional characters against each other!”

I'm still not sure if I'm going to participate in this challenge....

Can you take a break from reading to think a little bit more about books? Once this week is done, you're going to need more to read, right? Last month I created a list of ten summer titles I'm looking forward toYour challenge is simple: create a list of titles you're looking forward to reading. All you have to do is give one or more recommendations based on the formula "If you like ____, try ___."

Let me give it a try...

If you like Game of Thrones...
  • try "A Song of Ice and Fire", the book series that the series is based on.
  • try Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time", another epic/fantasy book series.

Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon - My Goals

As promised, here it's the post with my goals for Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon.

My goals are:
  1. To read every day;
  2. To participate in two challenges;
  3. To write at least one blog post per day (I'm not sure if I'll be able to update my blog once a day because of my internet connection).
Now, these are the books that I would like to read during the challenge. I chose only three books because I don't think I'll have much time to read this week. Also, I started reading some of them a while ago and this challenge will be my opportunity to finally finish them. If I find myself with time maybe I'll add a few more books.

"Mrs. Dalloway" by Virginia Woolf
"Life After Life" by Kate Atkinson
"Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe

Bout of Books 10 Read-a-Thon - Sign Up

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

As I enjoyed my first Read-a-Thon very much, I decided to give it a try again. Also, it seems I only update my blog when I participate in challenges like this one.

I'll publish my goals for Bout of Books 10 very soon. ;)
